Industrial revolution and thereby the progress in metallurgy offered with the production of various metals unimagined possibilities to the development of construction and architecture.
Metals, particularly iron and different types of steel have started to substitute construction materials; with their characteristics and applicability they enable higher safety and creativity in building of facilities. Steel constructions, such as bridges, stadiums, sports halls, petrol stations and other facilities give image to our environment. Yet metals do have one disadvantage, namely they oxidize quickly and thus lose their applicability advantages. In nature, constructions are constantly exposed to changes in temperature, humidity, acid rain and other corrosive agents. Without the appropriate protective coating, corrosion in the surface of a construction would begin in few weeks, the safety of the corroded surface would decrease and constructions would be destroyed in some following years.
Paralelly to the development in metallurgy, where new, more applicable alloys appeared, a development was noted also in the industry of coatings. This industry split into several specialized areas, one of the most important area is that of corrosion protection coatings.
In the continuation of this text only the part of the systems is presented, which we in HELIOS offer in compliance with international standards and trends. The selection of a system depends on the facility type, surface, exposure to atmospheric influences, technological possibilities and customers' requirements.
Only the correctly chosen corrosion protection system, quality surface preparation and suitable application of coatings can guarantee a long lasting durability of the protected construction.
