Stains

Stains

Stains are the coating materials, which emphasize the natural structure of wood. Using the stains we give a desired colour to wooden surfaces and improve its appearance. Helios produces mainly two types of stains:

EKOHEL stains - water based
COMBINED stains - organic solvent based

EKOHEL stains

EKOHEL stains are based on water-thinnable acrylic binders and colorants.
EKOHEL stains for dipping and spraying are above all intended for the staining of chairs and small furniture elements made of different types of massive wood, especially beech. EKOHEL stains for roller application are mainly used in industrial lines.

  • The advantages of EKOHEL stains are:

- environment and people friendly
- uniform appearance of stained surfaces, especially by spraying
- water thinnable
- easy cleaning of the tools and equipment

  • The disadvantages of EKOHEL stains:

- intensive lifting of wood fibres
- longer drying
- storage at a temperature of min. +5°C to +30°C, in containers made of plastics or stainless sheet metal
- the decomposition of a binder is possible due to wood powder at high summer temperatures

The dried stained surfaces may be lacquered with HELIOCEL, HELIODUR, EKOHEL and UV ACRYLIC lacquers. The addition of stains in the mentioned lacquers is not allowed.

COMBINED stains

COMBINED stains are based on binders solved in organic solvents. They are used for staining of different wood surfaces (massive and veenered). Depending on the type of wood we choose from the following groups:

1. COMBINED stains for spraying are based on alkyd resin solved in organic solvents. We choose them for uniform staining of veenered or massive wood elements and when we wish to achieve a less distinct natural structure of wood. They are suitable for the staining of wood with less distinct pores such as cherry, walnut, maple, birch, pear, pine, etc.
COMBINED stains for spraying may be added to HELIOCEL and HELIODUR lacquers in the quantity of between 1 to 5%.

2. COMBINED stains for wiping are based on nitrocellulose solved in organic solvents. They are intended for the staining of large veneered or massive surfaces, where we want to emphasize the natural structure of wood. They are suitable for staining of wood having pores, such as oak, ash, etc.
3. COMBINED stains for roller application are based on nitrocellulose solved in organic solvents. They are mainly used in industrial lines.

  • The advantages of COMBINED stains:

- quick drying
- various application possibilities: by spraying, by wiping, by roller
- high colour shade intensity
- low lifting of fibres

  • The disadvatages of COMBINED stains:

- emmission of organic solvents
- maintaining working viscosity by adding of a thinner

The dried stained surfaces may be lacquered with HELIOCEL, HELIODUR, EKOHEL and UV ACRYLIC lacquers.
